oh to be

in a world

that is seen

as more cold and mean

oh to be

in a time

where days just fly by

and both the sun and moon

are out at the very same time

oh to be

among those

that value dollars over lives

and warped within the mind

oh to be

in areas that have

far less trees

than ever before

oh to be

on the brink

of so many wars

both seen and unseen

oh to be

in a reality that

is shaped by more

illusion than actual freedom

oh to be

hated for just about anything

and especially the things

that naturally cannot be changed

oh to be

fed a steady diet of lies

and altered history

in more ways than one

oh to be

shunned for simply

telling the truth

and being brave enough

to move in the opposing direction

oh to be

in a society

that is a recipe for disaster

rather than do what is necessary

for sustainable real change

and oh to be

writing this poem

that could go on

and on referencing

even more things, that we face

and are upon us now

all while living and existing

along both lines of the

hidden and exposed

the light and shadowy

oh to be

oh to be

oh to be

  1. Woe is evident in these verses. Our world is indeed in big trouble. It’s hard to see the light and positivity but not impossible. I appreciate you sharing your poetic impressions of the state of affairs, Maurice!
