I type this here
With a tear
Running down one side
Of my face
Due to so much disgust
And I write this here
With a tear
Of the inability to just live
In perpetual peace other than
By death
As survival is the norm
As one that exists within a storm
Closed and boxed in
From all sides
And I indicate this here
With a tear
From my other eye
With both a fire and rain
At a standstill there if seen
And so much felt in between
For I convey this here
With more tears falling
From situations of a people
Down crawling and sprawling
But nevertheless still rises
Still surprises
In the most amazing of ways
Through much disarray
Swayed and not rolled away
And built to stay
So I convey this here
With just a few more tears
Of a great nation
That will one day
Ring in tears of joy
And with a change
Of atmosphere
As I’ll look back
Upon the day
That I wrote this
With a tear

This hits with a quiet, accumulating weight. The repeated “with a tear” becomes its own kind of refrain—simple, stubborn, and honest. What stays with me is the movement from private disgust and the boxed-in feeling of just surviving inside a storm, to the wider view of a people still rising through the sprawl, still surprising themselves. The final turn toward a nation that will one day cry tears of joy feels earned rather than forced; it’s the same person looking back from a different atmosphere, still carrying the memory of the day the first tears fell. Quiet, clear, and hopeful without pretending the present is easy. Thank you for putting it down.
I appreciate that very much and really glad my poem resonated with you. Thanks for your comment and deep insight here as well 🙂
The repetition of “with a tear” becomes an anchor not dwelling in despair but tracing the honest line from boxed-in survival to a people who still rise through sprawl, still surprise themselves. What moves me most is how you don’t apologize for the disgust, the storm, the weight of just existing.
You let it be real, then quietly pivot toward the day when those same tears become joy. That’s not false hope, that’s faith built on the ground of everything you’ve witnessed and survived. 💙
Wow, thank you very much and I’m glad my poem allowed you to see the pain, suffering, hope, and victory within, I also appreciate your deep and heartfelt outlook and comment, well stated and glad you saw it for what it was 🙂
