I learned the appreciation of poetry first And how words can bend lines Without breaking them
To poetically tantalize and realize
That I
Can manipulate and correlate poetry
Formally or freely
In the manner that I so choose
Then began to walk in these poetic shoes
Then arrived the rhythmic dance of ryhme The fire hidden within The pacing of words And the poetic tools to keep on going And using these poetic instruments
With every thought of poetry
So if people ask if I’m fluent in poetry
Then my reply would be, yes I am
And in more ways than one
All while having so much fun doing so
Not if I do, but more like how many times in a row
I’d tell them, fluency isn’t memorizing poems Or collecting beautiful words Like your favorite collectible
It’s knowing how to use the ordinary
To accomplish something extraordinary
Syllables for weapons That can carry a poetic line ever so far
It’s hearing words within your mind It’s seeing the poem materialize
Support to an artist, means absolutely everything to them.
It begins with showing an interest, and then trying it on for size. And after while and with a show of skill developed, a passion arises. One that sometimes even surprises the new artist as well. Going into it wide eyed and curiosity for it even higher. But then one day, the person or persons you believe to care, don’t support your artistic dreams and aspirations. Treat it and seen as something you’re wasting your life on. Talk about shattering a dream, and even worse trying to redirect you elsewhere. To something you have no interest in at all or ever. Because of what they believe, instead of believing in you instead.
But for an artist to get that full support, catapults and thrives in ways that will further shape them later down the road. But the first and initial support for an artist, should always be self. That is the start and from others would be a bonus. Oftentimes we’re too affected and redirected by others, instead standing our ground and staying the course. The pathway and journey we were called to do, and if nothing else, do this and nothing else eitherwith our lives. In a perfect world, this would be ideal. But in our imperfect world we as artists must be who we are and were meant to be. And never allow the fire to be extinguished, by anyone or anything.
