I learned the appreciation of poetry first
And how words can bend lines
Without breaking them
To poetically tantalize and realize
That I
Can manipulate and correlate poetry
Formally or freely
In the manner that I so choose
Then began to walk in these poetic shoes
Then arrived the rhythmic dance of ryhme
The fire hidden within
The pacing of words
And the poetic tools to keep on going
And using these poetic instruments
With every thought of poetry
So if people ask if I’m fluent in poetry
Then my reply would be, yes I am
And in more ways than one
All while having so much fun doing so
Not if I do, but more like how many times in a row
I’d tell them, fluency isn’t memorizing poems
Or collecting beautiful words
Like your favorite collectible
It’s knowing how to use the ordinary
To accomplish something extraordinary
Syllables for weapons
That can carry a poetic line ever so far
It’s hearing words within your mind
It’s seeing the poem materialize
Before ever reaching for a pen
Or the placement of those words upon the paper
And right there is where, the fluency began
